TED Talks, and the Power of Inspiration!
So, allow me to stay by saying TED Talks are the s**t! So, if you're not familiar with TED talks, allow me to shed some light for you. TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) is a global set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation formed to disseminate "ideas worth spreading." They address a wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture, often through storytelling. The speakers are given a maximum of 18 minutes to present their ideas in the most innovative and engaging ways they can. Source: Wikipedia: TED Conference
To make a long story short, the best and brightest in a plethora of industries have 18 minutes to blow your mind with their ideas and accomplishments...and the best TED talks are nothing short of breathtaking. What I love most about TED talks, are that they are chock full of inspiration. I'm a firm believer that if you want to be successful, you have to align and surround yourself with successful people, and that is something that TED talks offer...the opportunity to hear how successful people got to where they are.Particularly, I wanted to introduce you all to Eric Whitacre. Aside from his movie star good looks, Eric is a very gifted composer. What makes him so unique, is the story of how he came to be a composer (a twisted road that culminated in him joining a college choir, because there were hot chicks there and they were planning a trip to Mexico) and the avenues he has chosen to share his craft, and his gifts, with the world. Through the inspiration of one young lady on Youtube, he chose to walk a less than conventional path, and his inspiration has resulted in awe inspiring creations that can go on to inspire others.I've watched the Eric Whitacre TED talk many times, and have even showed it to the students in my CCRF/Technology class, to remind them how passion and curiosity can make just about anything possible. So, without further adieu, check out Eric's TED talk:
As well as his amazing creations. Even if you're not into classical music, you can't deny the beauty and grandeur, both aurally and visually. I'd be lying if I said that this videos had not caused me to shed a tear or two.
Virtual Choir - “Lux Aurumque”
Virtual Choir - "Sleep"
Virtual Choir - "Water Night"
Eric's 4th virtual choir "Bliss" is in the planning stages currently, and is part of a kickstarter program to raise necessary funds. I love Kickstarter. Check it out here: Virtual Choir 4 Kickstarter!
I hope this all brings a smile to your face, and maybe a moment of inspiration to your life. In the tumultuous nature and chaos of life, sometimes we just need a little inspiration. There's a video by Les Brown that I watch at least bi-weekly. It's all about being positive in a negative world, and it's a reminder that I feel like I often need. Perhaps I'll share it sometime...perhaps. And by the way, in case you were wondering what my favorite TED talk is...
