YOLO

So, allow me to start by saying that when I use the term "YOLO," it's with the most extreme sarcasm that can be mustered by someone of my distinct humor. However, I am a big fan of the idea thatYOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!!!!I often say, "This is the only life I have to live...hopefully."  In all honesty, I wouldn't want to do all this stuff again.  If anything near reincarnation does exist, I hope that I can achieve some higher plane of existence, that wouldn't entail wallowing in this muck for another 60-70 years.  You'll notice I'm also a realist about my life span.Anywho, I wanted to share this video.  I've thought about sharing this video for several reasons.  I find it visually appealing and startling all at the same time.I'm also sure that many of you will not be able to understand the lyrics, so here's what you should do:

  1. Watch The Video
  2. Read The Lyrics (They are below)
  3. Watch The Video again!

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=312Sb-2PovA]I think I find the message also so poignant due to the fact that the singer (Mitch Lucker)  of this band, Suicide Silence, died some time ago in a motorcycle accident. You only live once, so go f**king nuts. So, I think we all need to be reminded sometime that we are on borrowed time.  As Tyler Durden would say,

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

You can't take life too seriously, because you're never gonna make it out alive, right?  And yet, we take it so crazily serious.  We virtually kill ourselves to achieve so many things...all of which we will eventually have to part with.  It's pretty crazy if you stop and think about it. And so, what is the point?  Well I think it's safe to say that it's not money and riches.  For some of us, it's religious and spiritual fulfillment. I myself don't subscribe to that train of thought, but that certainly has its merits.  I'm all for anything that keeps people from being a**holes. For me, I think the point is simply to have fun. Yes, that does sound simplistic.  I'm a firm believer that if we all kept the perceptions of a 5-year-old in mind, we would conduct ourselves as better people.  5-year-olds are all about having fun.  They don't care what color you are, or how round or skinny you are. They notice those things, but they will openly and honestly inquire about them.

Why is your skin that color???

Many of us would be quick to look embarrassed and say "Shhhh!"  But why??  It's an honest question.  The child is curious, and the only way to learn about something you don't know is to ask. Knowledge is the slayer of ignorance. But somewhere along the road we forget that don't we?  5-year-olds also just want to enjoy. They don't stay angry long.  They are usually willing to find a fair compromise. Best of all, they're not yet cynical. Our cynicism becomes our undoing I believe. So, I tend to keep a rather simplistic outlook on life. "It's so much easier said than done!" I declare bullshit!Your boyfriend is a douche, and  you spend more time bitching about him than actually enjoying your relationship?  Tell him to kick rocks, and if it's truly that heartbreaking, shack up with his best friend for a few weeks....it'll all be right as rain soon enough. You hate your job?  Well look for another one....find another one.   Then, tell your boss to kiss your black a** (You can say this even if you're white, it's awesome!), and flip over a garbage can as you say "I'm out!" 5-year-olds know how to let go.  They're pet fish dies.  They're sad as hell...for about 3 days. Then they're asking you if they can get another fish.Hell yeah you can! I'm slowly learning to let go.  Of the past.  Of people who are counterproductive to what I hope to achieve in life.  Even to memories in some cases. And in addition to having fun, I also want to help others.  I think that's what ultimately led me to become a teacher.  I love helping people, and making them smile, and knowing that even after I am dead, I will have left a positive mark upon this world.  I just hope to have fun in the process.  I try so hard not to get caught up in all the craziness that ultimately, doesn't matter. If you stop and think "How much of my day to day dealings are of the most fundamental importance to my existence.   You just might be shocked how much of it is so trivial...trivial in the grand scheme of things. The perfect example:  If you had 10 hours to live, how much of that would you still care to deal with? So, here's your last hour reminder.  The next 10 minutes of your life aren't guaranteed.  Say it now.  Do it now. Revel in each passing moment.  Life's too short to deal with bulls**t.

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE, SO JUST GO F***ING NUTS!!!

Suicide Silence - You Only Live Once Lyrics

Push your care, push your burdens aside.Erase everything inside and leave just one thing on your mind. You only live once so just go fucking nuts. Eeah Go!Live life hard.Live life hard. You only get one shot.So shoot. With every breath you take, you're dying. With every step we take we're falling apart. We only had one chance. We breathe.Let's take this chance right now and scream. You only get one life. For a very short time.So make every second divine.Go!Live life hard.Live life hard. Are you still breathing ?Its your heart that's beating inside. That keeps us alive. And for the very first time we're pushing aside. To surrender everything that you see in my eyes. There's only one thing on my mind. That I am alive. For the very first timeFor the first time.Pushing worry aside. For the first time.Pushing worry aside.Erase everything inside.Erase everything inside.Erase everything inside and leave just one chance. You only get one shot. You only live once so just go fucking nutsYou only live once so just go fucking nutsYou only live once, go fucking nutsYou only live once so just go fucking nutsLive life hardLive life hardLive life hardLive life hard
