In Love

I'm a little ashamed to admit that I recently fell in love. I've fallen in love before. Several times in fact. However, this time was different. Allow me to explain...Recently on my roadtrip from Alaska to Chicago, a friend, Traci, invited me to stop by and see her and her family on my way home. While 200 miles out of the way, I thought it would be fun. See a new place, see good friends. Why not?And that is how I became acquainted with Ely, Minnesota. Ely is such a cute and quaint little town. Traci, her husband and their 2 kids live about 4 miles out of town. And that was where I fell in love. Trees as far as the eye can see. Lakes at every twist and turn. Hiking...oh the hiking. If I could hike those trails every day.Now I've done my fair share of traveling before, and yes, I have fallen in love with other locales. However, they all had one thing in common; their urban aesthetic.Every place I've ever loved was urban in some way. This was the first time I'd been to a place, and immediately fell head over heels for it, that was decidedly rural. Not nearly as rural as my stay in Alaska, but close. The log cabins, and the cliffs...even came across a waterfall while hiking.More than anything, I think this was a stark revelation that I, someday, could possibly be happy somewhere other than the city. Perhaps, the relaxing, quiet, "country" life could suit this city boy.Perhaps.
