Encountering The Police
So...discussions about dealing with the police, and police brutality, and police/community relations are going on everywhere. We certainly have issues going on in this area. I don't think that can denied. How to deal with that problem, however, is where the real debate, in my opinion begins. So this might be controversial, but first and foremost, I want to address those people who think it's ok, or cool to argue or engage in physical confrontation with the police.Fuck you!Fuck you Twice! And if you are sitting there, right now, offended, that means I probably owe you a 3rd fuck you. That shit ain't cool. You're actually making an already existing problem worse, by being a shithead.I usually attempt to avoid coarse language, but I don't think there's any better way to express my distaste. You're not an idiot, or an ignoramus...you're a shitbag. Plain and simple. This isn't really a topic of conversation I have any inclination to be "kind" about. If you engage in conflict with an officer, the situation is not going to work out in your favor. You will get what you've set yourself up for.So, now that I got that out of my system, the real point of this post is to share some information, and perhaps spark some healthy debate, on how you should deal encounters with police...particularly if you feel that the police officer is behaving inappropriately or unprofessionally. So, allow me to start with sharing a video. Now, I can not vouch that everything expressed in this video is factual. However, it will give you a good starting off point to your research in which you divide fact from fiction. I don't have any plans to have any encounters with police anytime soon...but if I do, I at least want to feel secure in the fact that I know what my rights are, and that I can intelligently proceed.[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmIzDJDEJVg[/embed]Now, in addition, the following is from the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and are tips whether you are stopped by a confrontational officer, or Immigration agents. Information from the ACLU is 100% legit, so soak this in.
What to do if you're stopped by police, immigration agents, or the FBI
It's a lot of good, useful information, so I'm not going to paste it all here. But, go read it. Know what your rights are.So hopefully that helps you well meaning people a bit. All police aren't bad. Are there bad ones? Of course. But we should always put the best intentions forward to work with the authorities, not always against them.In this life, you can either be part of the solution, or part of the problem.
